A Late George III period Satinwood and Rosewood-Crossbanded Cylinder Desk
English, circa 1800.
Elegantly proportioned and finely crafted, this late George III cylinder desk is veneered in satinwood with contrasting rosewood crossbanding, enriched throughout with delicate boxwood and ebony stringing.
The superstructure is designed as a charming three-tier waterfall bookcase, providing both visual appeal and practical storage.
The roll-top cylinder cover opens smoothly to reveal a well-fitted interior, comprising three pigeon holes flanked by four small drawers, each fitted with bone handles, above a sliding writing surface.
Below, a long frieze drawer offers additional storage, complemented by a further drawer set within a shaped arched apron.
The desk stands on square tapering legs, terminating in elegant brass-capped toes and castors, allowing for ease of movement.
A refined and functional example of early 19th-century English furniture, combining practicality with understated neoclassical elegance.
Note, a wonderful sophisticated piece with an exceptional colour.
