A Pair of Cast Stone Garden Urns on Pedestals

SOLD

Almost certainly by Haddonstone.

English, circa 1970s.

A fine weathered pair of cast stone garden urns, each of elegant Georgian form, with swagged decoration, formal floral motifs and boldly modelled lion-mask handles, raised on associated square-section pedestals.

The urns are almost certainly by Haddonstone, and are closely related to the company’s celebrated Swagged Margam Urn. Haddonstone was commissioned to restore and reproduce the original urns at the English Heritage-listed Margam Orangery in South Wales as part of the British contribution to the 1975 European Architectural Heritage Year.

The present pair are particularly decorative examples, with their classical proportions and richly modelled ornament making them equally suitable for a formal garden, terrace or architectural interior.
