AN EXCEPTIONAL GEORGE 111 GILTWOOD OVERMANTEL MIRROR DESIGNED BY THOMAS CHIPPENDALE

AN EXCEPTIONAL GEORGE 111 GILTWOOD OVERMANTEL MIRROR DESIGNED BY THOMAS CHIPPENDALE

English: Circa 1765

A mid 18th century giltwood overmantel mirror retaining the original gilding. The oval plate within swept frame of C-scrolls and acanthus foliage flanked by urn finials crested by a basket of flowers.
Note: This mirror is directly from a design by Thomas Chippendale.

The mirror is in wonderful original condition, retaining its original plate and gilding. The quality of the carving is exceptional which certainly links this mirror to a leading cabinet-maker.

Without a provenance and archival documentation we can not say with certainty this mirror was actually made in Thomas Chippendale’s workshop, with that said it is certainly possible.
