An 18th-Century Irish Chimneypiece in White Statuary and Breccia di Seravezza Marble
Irish, circa 1790.
A rare and elegant 18th century Irish chimneypiece, executed in the Palladian taste. The moulded shelf, carved in white statuary marble, surmounts a finely proportioned frieze centred by an exquisitely carved classical vase set within fluted panels in the central tablet.
The jambs are formed of richly figured, bookmatched Breccia di Seravezza marble, separated by a simple white moulding, and raised on foot blocks, enhancing its architectural presence.
Note: Chimneypieces of Irish origin from this period incorporating Breccia di Seravezza marble are particularly rare, making this an exceptional and highly desirable example.
