A rare and highly decorative carved sandstone garden urn or fountain bowl, executed very much in the manner of Archibald Knox. The substantial bowl is richly carved with bold Celtic-inspired ornament and intricate knotted detail, raised on a distinctive triple-column support with further stylised Celtic carving to the lower section, all resting on a strong square plinth base.

Beautifully weathered and presented in very good condition throughout, the piece possesses exceptional sculptural presence and displays the romantic character associated with the early 20th-century Arts and Crafts movement. The design closely relates to the celebrated Compton garden urns created by Knox for Liberty & Co. and produced by Compton Potteries during the first quarter of the 20th century. Examples in carved stone are exceptionally uncommon and considerably rarer than the pottery models.

Archibald Knox (1864–1933) was one of the foremost figures of the Celtic Revival and Arts and Crafts movements in Britain. Born on the Isle of Man, Knox drew deep inspiration from Celtic mythology, ancient design motifs, and the natural landscape of his homeland. His influential work for Liberty & Co. helped define the distinctive aesthetic of the period, combining elegant craftsmanship with powerful symbolic decoration.
