A REGENCY PERIOD MAHOGANY WINDOW SEAT IN THE MANNER OF GILLOWS
English, circa 1820.
Dimensions:
Height: 62 cm
Length: 120 cm
Depth: 35 cm
A fine late Regency period mahogany window seat in the manner of Gillows, of elegant and refined proportions.
The rectangular seat is traditionally upholstered in 19th-century antique linen. The seat and cushion are framed by elegantly scrolled ends, with finely carved foliate detailing above the apron. The apron is further embellished with moulded and reeded decoration, flanked by carved paterae, and raised on reeded, tapering legs terminating in brass-capped castors.
This charming window seat would be equally well suited to a window recess, positioned at the end of a bed, or placed in a hallway or entrance.
